Governor & Senator's Fierce Clash Halts Meeting

A senate's committee sitting was forced to adjourn its meeting after a clash that ensued between a governor and a senator became fierce.

According to People Daily, Isiolo Governor Mohammed Kuti had been invited to answer audit questions raised during three financial years beginning 2015/2016.

All hell broke loose during the meeting which was organised by the Senate Public Accounts Committee when Isiolo senator Fatuma Dhullo demanded that the governor explains why he ignored her advice and proceeded to sign a multi-million deal.

The governor reportedly signed a Ksh443 million deal with a foreign firm identified as Living Goods Limited that is set to take over operations in three sub-county hospitals for four years.

In his defence, Kuti argued that he was not to blame because he had addressed all the concerns that the senator raised regarding the matter.

“I want to assure that as a county government, we have no interest in flaunting procurement laws,” he told the panel which is headed by Moses Kajwang’

That was when Dhullo reportedly lost her cool and interrupted the Governor nearly sending the meeting into a shouting match.

She argued that her criticism of the project was used to malign her and open her to public ridicule.

Kajwang' was forced to intervene and stamp his authority for the leaders to come down.

Dhullo had earlier written to the senate and Treasury which subsequently halted the plan.

Kuti, however, maintained that his administration had adhered to all regulations guiding procurement.
