4 Kenyans Petition Parliament to Reject Wabukala's Nomination

Four Kenyans have come forward to challenge the nomination of retired Anglican Archbishop Eliud Wabukala to be chair of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

In an affidavit presented to the Parliamentary committee vetting Wabukala, the four - Rev. John Mbugua, Gilbert Mukabane, Eric Abu, and Jeramba Munuhe - accused the retired Anglican Church leader of having misused his office in the past.

They urged parliament to disqualify Wabukala citing that he had in the past used his office and powers to sanitize corrupt people and other unethical individuals.

The affidavit stated that the retired bishop presided over religious functions such as weddings, baptisms, and burials of thieves and other people of questionable moral character.

The Kenyans stated that by approving the clergyman's nomination, the National Assembly would be complicit in Wabukala’s philosophy of ‘sanitizing corruption through prayers’.

On Thursday, the EACC nominee appeared before MPs sitting in the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) for vetting.

He assured the country that he should he be approved, he will perform his duties independently without interference from external forces.
