A new directive regarding special road privileges for Kenyan VIPs issued by the Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, cleared just four Cabinet Secretaries (CSs).
Their respective Principal Secretaries (PSs) were also mentioned as the only elite group of individuals allowed to flout regular traffic regulations.
The four were identified as, CS for Defence, Raychelle Omamo, CS Interior and Coordination of National Government, Fred Matiang'i, CS Finance, Henry K. Rotich and CS Foreign Affairs, Monica Juma.
All the other CSs were warned that their drivers would be arrested and charged if caught in violation of traffic regulations.
"Any government vehicle found violating traffic regulations especially those overlapping, the drivers shall be arrested and charged in accordance with the law," an excerpt of the statement affirmed.
IG Mutyambai also made it clear that vehicles not on the list provided would only be allowed clearance privileges after being granted authority by officers in charge of traffic in the respective regions.
He went on to disclose that he had issued the new directive following public outcry over inconveniences caused by government vehicles and VIPs on public roads regularly.
The directive shared by the National Police Service (NPS) went on to name several other VIPs who would be accorded special road clearance privileges namely:

2. The Deputy President
3. The First Lady
4. The Chief Justice
5. The Attorney General
6. Speaker of the National Assembly
7. Speaker of the Senate
8. The Chief of Defence Force
9. The Service Commanders of Defence Forces
10. Inspector General of National Police Service
11. Deputy Inspector General - Kenya Police Service and Administration Police Service
12. The National Assembly Majority Leader
13. The Senate Majority Leader
14. Retired Presidents
15. Retired Prime Minister
Ambulances and fire brigades were also mentioned among the select few vehicles that automatically qualified for special clearance on roads and highways.
