Aisha Jumwa Spared as Final Ruling on Her Expulsion From ODM is Made

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party was on Friday dealt a huge blow by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT).

A report published by The Star indicated that PPDT invalidated a decision by the party to expel Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna stated that the tribunal had remitted its decision to the party, adding that they would convene a meeting to discuss it.

"PPDT has sent their decision to us. We'll get a copy of the written decision and then we'll then present it to the relevant organs of the party," he stated.

Jumwa was expelled from ODM on Friday, March 1. However, her co-accused, Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori was spared.

The party, through its Twitter account, announced that the National Governing Council (NGC) had expelled the vocal legislator for gross misconduct.

"Party NGC unanimously votes to expel Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa from the party. The meeting, however, deferred the decision to expel her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori following his letter of apology to the SG Edwin Sifuna in which be apologised to the party for his rebellion," the statement reads in part.

However, Jumwa protested the decision to expel her from ODM and filed a case with the PPDT on March 4, 2019, claiming that the punishment was unfair and excessive.
