Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday arrested a masters student from the University of Nairobi who has been extorting money from MPs.
The student, Alex Anyolo was sending threatening messages to Njoro MP, Charity Kathambi Chepkwony, and five other MPs with the intent of extorting.
The 30-year-old is said to have received money from another member of parliament and admitted to sending threatening messages to the MPs.
DCI also seized several sim cards including one that sent the messages, handsets and different ID cards.
Further investigations are still ongoing.
In such a similar incident, a man was arraigned in court and charged with conning Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina of Ksh200,000.
The suspect identified as Peter Njoroge is said to have convinced the senator to give him a contract to construct a cowshed.
The senator is said to have called a number from the Facebook page of Pensmart Dairy Solutions and the phone was picked by Njoroge who gave the legislator a different number to reach him on.
In yet another incident which caught the attention of the public, Speaker Justin Muturi was allegedly conned of Ksh 300,000 by a man impersonating a member of parliament.
The speaker is claimed to have been duped by the fraudster who posed as a legislator in need of money to buy medication - a plea to which Muturi unsuspiciously obliged to.
During Muturi's hearing, a number of Cabinet Secretaries and MPs revealed they had fallen prey to conmen posing as legislators in distress - among them former Migori Senator Wilfred Machage, who lost Ksh200,000.
