DPP’s Official Jailed for Stealing Ksh30K Evidence

James Naburuk Sichangi, a prosecutor in Kitale court, was on Thursday found guilty for hiding money that was meant to be used as evidence in Trans Nzoia county.

The court prosecutor hid Ksh 30,000 whose purpose was to serve as evidence in the said court of law.

On a separate account, Naburuk was also found guilty of soliciting for a Ksh 60,000 bribe from Ms Joyce Wanjiku.

The purpose of the bribe was for Naburuk not to object a bail application that had been tabled by Wanjiku’s boss.

Reports by Daily Nation indicate that Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa offered Naburuk the option of paying Ksh 200,000 fine for two counts of corruption.

The prosecutor was, therefore, found guilty of the two counts of corruption and served with a two-year jail term.

In another account, a police officer, was on Wednesday arrested and charged alongside his sister for impersonating a NACADA officer as well as alleged murder of an individual in Kasarani.

Simon Kagiri Magondu was apprehended alongside his accomplice Simon Omanyinya, after members of the public alerted officers on patrol that two people were extorting civilians' money.

The officer and his sister, Catherine Wambui Magondu, were already on trial for the murder of Samuel Mugo Muriuki.

The suspect and his sister were accused of inciting a mob to attack the deceased over allegations of stealing miraa in South Ngariama, Kirinyaga County.

After the mob attacked him, Muriuki was rushed to the Embu Level 5 hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The arrested officer and his sister were, however, released on Ksh1 million bail each after a judge ruled there were no longer compelling reasons to detain them.
