AP Officers Killed in Wajir Explosion

Several security officers are feared dead after the vehicle they were travelling in ran over an improvised explosive device (IED) in Khorof Harar, Wajir County.

Reports by The Standard indicate that 8 Administration Police officers died in the incident.

The officers were allegedly conducting security surveillance along Kenya-Somalia border when the attack happened.

UPDATE: The Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai issued a statement confirming the tragic incident.

"The Inspector General National Police Service wishes to inform the public that this morning at around 10.50 am, a police land cruiser aboard 11 police officer was hit by Improvised Explosive Device. The officers were on patrol between Khorof-harar and Konton in Wajir County along the Kenya -Somalia border.

"I have dispatched additional resources including aerial surveillance capability to continue with the operation. Further updates To follow," his statement read.

Elsewhere, three militants died on Thursday morning after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) they were planting blew off prematurely.

The incident allegedly occurred at Bodhai-Boragai road, Lamu County at around 12:30 am.

Photos seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed the victims bodies scattered at the scene of the incident.

Sources indicated that three loaded AK 47 magazines, 12 loose rounds of ammunition and a magazine pouch was recovered from the scene.
