Uhuru's Stern Warning to Youth Over Quick Money

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday called on the youth to shun get-rich-quick schemes by focusing on hard work and remaining upright.

The Head of State asserted that the young people should take advantage of several opportunities created by his administration to do business. The president cited the removal of several bottlenecks that were a hindrance to the registration and operation of businesses in the country, especially among the youth.

He spoke when he presided over the official launch of the MasterCard Foundation's Young Africa Works program. The public-private sector partnership seeks to boost job and employment creation efforts by the government.

"There is no way success can be realized when the youth who form the majority of the population are not engaged," Uhuru noted.

He added that his administration had rolled out the Sports Fund, the Women Fund and a special allocation of procurement opportunities in the Government to the youth and persons with disability.

President Kenyatta further cited the review of the education curriculum and the establishment of Technical and Vocational and Training Institutions across the country as a strategy to empower the youth with the right skills.

"We are currently reviewing our curriculum to ensure that our youth are well-equipped for the demands and needs of the current era," he divulged.

The government also pledged to set up several music studios in the nation in a bid to support the talents of youths gifted in performing arts.

"I understand that for long, the world of arts has been sidelined but my government is working to ensure that this aspect of our young people is well-nurtured and cultured. We will set up several recording studios to tap this talent," the president promised.

During his speech, the president shared with Kenyans what inspired him to be who he is now. He also stated that the Kenyan youth really inspired him by their creativity, boldness and resilience in using their talents and energies to innovate and forge a better tomorrow for themselves and for the nation.
