State House Knife Attacker Disappears From Hospital

UPDATE: Reports by Kilimani OCPD indicate that the individual who disappeared from Kenyatta Hospital is a different Brian Bera and not the Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology (JKUAT) student who was caught trespassing into State House.

Brian Bera, the Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology (JKUAT) student who was shot after he scaled State House walls to stab President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Tuesday reported missing.

Milimani high court ordered Kilimani police boss to investigate the disappearance of the said student from Kenyatta hospital in Nairobi.

The student who was found trespassing into the statehouse was confronted by officers manning the area and he drew out his knife.

This prompted the officers to fire at him and he sustained a gunshot wound on the left shoulder.

Later in the week, his father, David Bera narrated to the media that his son was suffering from a medical disorder, which he blamed for his daring action.

“In June last year, Brian was admitted to Reale Hospital in Eldoret town for two weeks. After diagnosis, it was established that he had a brief psychotic disorder,” Bera's father told The Standard.

A copy of a medical document seen by the publication noted that the State House intruder displayed signs of disorganized behaviour/speech, violence, wandering and needed psycho-education/family therapy.

His father narrated that in 2018, Brian's condition had improved and he had even requested to go back to school and complete his studies. He was, however, never taken for the medical review as required.
