Red Cross Vehicle Ambushed by Armed Gangsters

A Kenya red cross vehicle was on Thursday afternoon waylaid by armed bandits on the Kapenguria -Lodwar highway Turkana County.

The bandits are said to have shot at the car severally injuring the driver who was alone in the vehicle.

Daily Nation reported that the incident happened at Kainuk, near the Kenya Wildlife Service station, on a stretch known for ambushes by bandits.

The injured driver was on his way to Lodwar from Narok for a humanitarian mission.

Nick Thuo,  the Turkana county red cross manager confirmed the incident reporting that the driver was injured on his leg during the incident.

"He managed to drive himself to Kainuk Health Center, 20 kilometers away," Thuo stated.

The manager further affirmed that they were making plans to transfer him to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for advanced treatment.

Turkana South divisional police commander (OCPD) Robert Kibuchi confirmed that following the incident, security officers were deployed to pursue the attackers.

Kibuchi also revealed that he had deployed the Rapid Deployment Unit to undertake the manhunt in an armored personnel carrier.

"We have also intensified security patrols along Lodwar-Kitale highway, especially at the section between Kainuk and Kalemngorok centers, to assure all motorists are safe," he added.

Bandit attacks have increased across the country since the government disarmed Kenya Police Reservists in May.
