Source of Ruto's Assassination Letter Revealed

Police have revealed the source of an anonymous letter which claimed that a plot had been hatched to eliminate Deputy President William Ruto.

A report by Nation indicated that the letter, which was addressed to President Uhuru Kenyatta, allegedly originated from the DP's office.

According to the publication, two senior officials from Ruto's office were being sought by authorities for authoring the fake letter.

The two ostensibly drafted and printed the letter at a cyber cafe that is located along Langata Road.

Police sought the duo to record statements on Friday. However, their efforts bore no fruit as their phones were off.

One of them reportedly travelled out of Nairobi fearing that he would spend the weekend in the cells.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Boss George Kinoti refused to comment on whether the two would be arrested.

"Investigations are still ongoing. I can't say anything that can jeopardise them," he stated.

A senior official at the Interior Ministry, who preferred to remain anonymous for fear of reprisal, revealed that the authors of the fake letter were well known.

On Monday, ICT CS Joe Mucheru, his Health counterpart Sicily Kariuki, Trade & Industrialization CS Peter Munya presented themselves to the DCI after the DP reportedly filed a complaint over the phone.

Speaking to journalists at the DCI offices along Kiambu Road, Munya rubbished the claims and termed them as wild and unsubstantiated.

He also revealed that they could not record a statement because there was no written allegation they could respond to.

"We went out of our way, we wanted to write those statements but it became apparent that there is no written complaint.

"All they have is a purported letter that has been circulating on social media and we told them that we could not respond to that kind of a latter," Munya explained.
