Residents of Hola Town had to scamper for safety after one of them noticed a suspicious package that was left among the shoes during lunchtime prayers at a mosque.
As word spread that a suspected explosive had been cited, worshipers fled in panic and alerted the police.
The Imam who was leading the prayers had to cut them shortly after the worshipers stampeded out leaving him all alone inside the mosque.
When the police arrived they cordoned off the mosque in a bid to secure the package.
Police moved in and secured the suspect luggage and which upon investigation turned out to be a metallic container filled with tobacco.
A wire cable attached to it turned out to be a homemade device the owner of the container had created to funnel out the tobacco.
The mosque's Imam Sheikh Ali later asked the worshipers who attend prayers to keep away all suspicious packages.
This comes a few weeks after a South African man interrupted morning prayers in Taita Taveta waving a gun claiming that the worshipers were disrupting his peace with noise.
Terrified worshipers revealed that the suspect arrived in a vehicle and parked it outside before storming into the Mosque wielding a pistol.
They noted that they watched in shock and disbelief as the threatening suspect disrupted the prayer service.
