Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is not your typical Kenyan woman. Despite starting out like many Kenyans whose first salary was meagre, she has certainly entrenched herself in Kenya's political scene.
She has had to withstand many hurdles in her career that has now positioned her as a potential running mate for two presidential aspirants who have approached her.
However, before Waiguru reached the level of success that she currently enjoys, she must have started somewhere.
She was born in Gichugu Constituency, where former Minister Martha Karua also hails from but started school at Buru Buru's Nairobi River Primary.
After scoring the requisite marks, she was admitted to Precious Blood Riruta which propelled her to Moi Forces Academy for her A Levels.
Egerton University was her next stop where she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture and Home Economics.
Like many Kenyans who've ended up doing jobs that they didn't study for, Waiguru's first landing on the slippery runway I would like to call the job market was at an electrical contractor's company.
She was employed to perform clerical tasks where she pushed papers doing a variety of administrative duties.
For her time and effort, her Indian employer would pay her a salary of Ksh 3, 000 per month.
Her advice to ladies who wish to join the public service is that; to excel, one should be sharp in spotting and taking advantage of opportunities.
