Deputy President (DP), William Ruto's recent woes regarding his alleged assassination plot took a new twist on Thursday.
A group of 20 Members of the National Assembly signed a petition seeking to have the DP held accountable for the alarming plot, which has been termed fake, that they claimed had threatened to tear the nation apart.
The press release shared by Nyeri MP, Ngunjiri Wambugu, came a day after the arrest of DP Ruto's close aide, Dennis Itumbi.
"We demand that the Deputy President is probed to ascertain what he knew about this fake assassination plot," an excerpt of the statement disclosed.
The MPs also ordered that DP Ruto takes responsibility by making a public apology to the entire country over the false assassination plot that had caused quite a stir across the country.
"We expect the DP to make a public apology to Kenyans on causing them such anxiety based on falsehood at the very least," a section of the press release divulged.
Embakasi East MP, Babu Owino, while speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, confirmed their set of demands.
Their main aim according to the statement, was to ensure that any Kenyan whatever their office, would not be allowed to use their position or access to power to divide Kenyans
"We especially urge the DCI to tell Kenyans what the DP knew, when he knew it and what he did about it,"
If found guilty, the MPs urged the Judiciary to subject the culprits, regardless of their office, to the full force of the law.
The MPs went on to laud the various investigations agencies for their swift action to bring in all the suspects, adding that they were especially keen to find out what role the office of the DP played in the great scheme that threatened to divide the country down the middle.
