Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, made a fresh decree regarding the status of the striking health workers in her county.
This came after Justice Nzioka wa Makau of the Labour and Employment court in Nyeri, ruled that the strike action was permanently declared illegal, unlawful and unprotected, thus validating her decision to terminate all her contracts.
However, Waiguru loosened her previously tough stance by giving the health workers one last chance to report back to work.
"In spite of the grievous consequences of the striking health worker's actions, I wish to extend an olive branch to the health workers involved." an excerpt of her statement disclosed.
She then went on to issue an ultimatum in which all the striking medical practitioners were given until July 5, 2019, by 12:00 pm to report back to work or face the axe permanently.
However, the Kirinyaga Governor was quick to re-assure all striking medics willing to return that they would not be victimised for their past transgressions.
Waiguru also requested the county Senator, Charles Kibiru, to convene sessions to address concerns in the health sector while bearing in mind the constraints faced by her government.
The recently embattled governor advised labour activists, specifically from the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), to always consider the needs of the ordinary citizens before taking up industrial action.
Justice Nzioka's Thursday ruling had elicited an immediate response from the health workers, who vowed to challenge the ruling.
"We must move to the Court of Appeal to challenge the ruling which left the workers shocked," asserted the Central region KMPDU Secretary, Gor Goody.
