Kariobangi Sharks made history on Sunday by beating highly fancied English side, Everton, 4-3 on penalties, following a one-all stalemate during normal time.
The pulsating match had everything, pace, precision and flair, working the over 60,000 fans who had filled the Kasarani Stadium to capacity into a frenzy.
Everton's Joe Williams had brought the visiting team level at 1-1 after the break via a low-drilled freekick, following Duke Abuya's opener.
The goal by Abuya was the first ever by a Kenyan in the Sportpesa Trophy competition.
Kariobangi's Sharks' goalkeeper, Issa Bwire, was the hero at the end of the day as he saved two penalties and stepped up to the plate to take the final penalty that sent the Kenyan crowd wild.
Netizens were quick to congratulate the local team for the herculean fete, joking that the country should have probably sent the history-making team to the on-going Africa Cup of Nations competition.
The star-studded Everton side included the likes of Theo Walcott, Morgan Schneiderlin, Mason Holgate and Leighton Baines.
The Everton and Sharks players took to the pitch at the end of the match to thank the fans for generating a fantastic atmosphere at the Kenyan capital.
"A capacity attendance of 64,829 packed out the Kasarani Stadium Everton became the first Premier League team to play in Kenya. Thank you for such amazing support, Nairobi - and of course to the Toffees who travelled far and wide," Everton FC tweeted after the match.
