Joyce Akinyi Nabbed With Heroin at Popular Club in Nairobi West

Controversial Businesswoman Joyce Akinyi was on Saturday arrested with  2kg of heroin valued at more than Ksh3 million at Deep West club in Nairobi West.

She was reportedly was alongside a Congolese man and a woman identified as Fellis Anyango.

They are currently being held at the Muthaiga police station as the investigation goes on.

The trio was nabbed by officers from the DCI Special Crimes Prevention Unit together with the Anti-Narcotics department posing as customers.

Police sources revealed that officers ambushed Deep West, which Akinyi allegedly owns after other suspects were arrested with sachets of cocaine in different parts of the city.

Akinyi was identified as having being part of the distribution network.

“All the suspects arrested with the small sachets said they had bought from that club," a detective familiar with the probe revealed.

According to DCI head of Anti-Narcotics, Hamisi Masaa, the suspects will spend the entire weekend behind bars.

This is not the first time Akinyi has been involved in the illegal trade of narcotics.

In 2015, Akinyi together with three other suspects were arrested but later released.

In 2013, she was also arrested with Budalang'i MP Raphael Wanjala at Isinya on the Nairobi-Namanga highway over claims of drug trafficking.

More so Akinyi and her estranged Nigerian husband Anthony Chinedu were also linked to cases of drug trafficking. Chinedu has since been deported.
