Panic as Lorry Full of Unga Plunges Into Indian Ocean [PHOTOS]

A canter truck ferrying maize flour, plunged into the Indian Ocean while disembarking from MV Harambee, at the mainland side ramp of Likoni Ferry Channel.

The 10am Tuesday morning incident, caused quite a stir, with eyewitnesses reporting panic-stricken faces, as helpless passengers aboard the ferry watched the lorry plunge into the ocean, at the Kilindini Harbour.

Early reports indicated that severe winds at the busy ferry point may have led to the truck's loss of trajectory, leading to its calamitous fall.

"Mombasa is experiencing very strong winds...Take caution," Savelife Volunteers Kenya, a rescue services organization, tweeted.

However, the driver, Salim Musa, claimed that the vehicle's breaks failed while attempting to climb the steep ramp at the channel, KBC reported.

Salim and his turn boy, Katana Ali, were transporting foodstuff valued at Ksh 600,000 to South Coast, when the incident occurred, K24 digital reported.

"Occupants of the loaded maize millers lorry escaped unhurt after the vehicle failed to climb uphill on the Likoni mainland ramp," Baraka FM tweeted.

This latest incident comes barely two months after the busy Likoni Channel was brought into a standstill, after a petrol tanker got stuck at the mainland ramp.

It almost plunged into the Indian Ocean after it failed to climb up the ramp on the Likoni side.
