11-Year-Old Earns Ksh48K in 3 Mins After Wowing Crowd

Linet Chepkorir, an 11-year-old in Ainimoi Constituency, warmed residents' hearts by her moving song that told of her painful encounter with fire.

In November 2018, Linet suffered serious burns that left her face badly scarred with wounds that have not healed to date.

Her mother, who is single, deaf and dumb, had for the past months struggled to raise funds for her treatment but things took a different turn after Linet's song.

"Chepkorir accidentally fell into the fireplace and her mother who is deaf and dumb could not hear her cries. To date, her wounds have not healed properly," affirmed Pervin Sigei, who curtain raised for the young performer.

In an event held at Kenegut Primary School, Linet moved the crowds with a gospel tune about how God saved her from burning to death, while her mother couldn't hear her cries, The Standard reports.

In less than 3 minutes, the already sympathetic crowd contributed more than Ksh 48,000 for her treatment.

"I am a living testimony that there is a God who saved my life," she sang.

In May, four minors from Kapsoit Ward in Ainamoi Constituency were also scalded to death after the pot their mother, Vicky Cherotich, was using to brew Changaa, cracked open spewing the hot liquor on them.

On Tuesday, County health executive, Dr. Shadrach Mutai stated that the county had a plan for construction and equipping of a modern burn unit.

"Currently, we have no option but to refer patients who suffer severe burns to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital or Kijabe Mission Hospital," disclosed Mutai.
