There were mixed reactions, on Thursday, on social media following the publishing of Top 100 Journalist list by Kenyans.co.ke.
A majority of Kenyans expressed admiration and appreciation for the top journalists, while others conveyed doubts over the criteria used to come up with the list.
There were also those who opined that some journalists on the list deserved higher ranks than the ones they were accorded.
According to Kenyans.co.ke, the listed 100 media personalities were selected based on the impact they have had in the industry in 2019.
Furthermore, the media house explained that each one of them was assessed based on the quality of interviews, experience, diversity of talents and skills, as well as their ability to set the agenda for the nation.
Their roles in their different organisations such as seniority, oversight and management positions also played a part.
Taking the top spot on the list was Jeff Koinange, followed by Yvonne Okwara, Larry Madowo, Hussein Mohamed, Lulu Hassan, Sophia Wanuna, Rashid Abdalla and Waihiga Mwaura.
Check out some reactions from Kenyans:
There was a commotion, on Thursday, morning at the Nairobi CBD after police officers lobbed teargas canisters at a group of activists dubbed SwitchOffKPLC that was demonstrating against the high cost of power.
Led by Al Amin Kimathi and Wanjeri Nderu, the team called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to tame the officials.
“Why has the president been this silent about the corruption in the energy sector?” Nderu questioned.
“It is either the Government act or the people of Kenya will,” Kimathi weighed in.
This set the stage for an online debate with Kenyans bashing the police for using excessive force on the protestors yet they were given an earlier notification about the protest.
The discussion went on for the better part of the day with some expressing concern in the manner in which the KPLC tokens have notoriously been taking a lot of time to reflect after payment is done.
Oscar Sudi
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, on Wednesday, addressed a press conference in Eldoret where he called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to vacate office because he could no longer execute his mandate diligently.
A visibly agitated Sudi also claimed that despite Ruto asserting on several occasions that he (Ruto) and the President enjoyed a cordial bond, the difference was glaring for all to see.
The Kapseret MP declared that he would make a better President if he was given three months to lead the country together with his choice of running mate Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.
However, the outspoken Gatundu South MP was not pleased with the suggestion and issued a statement, on Wednesday, criticizing Sudi as incompetent and accusing him of condoning of corruption.
“To Oscar Kipchumba Sudi. Do not drag me into your stupidity. I fight my battles in courts silently and with deference to the rule of law and the supremacy of the constitution. No one helps me and I do not expect anyone to expect my help.
“The Matters you refer to are now subject of the court and so clearly your comments are sub-judice. Let me give you unsolicited advice. Your comments make many people wonder how you would behave if you are allowed 50 kilometres radius from a future State House,” Kuria stated.
The topic dominated the social media circles with most Kenyans giving varying comments regarding the whole affair.
