Joe Mwangi Responds to Allegations of Exploiting Wendy Waeni

Renowned gymnast, Wendy Waeni, on Wednesday night, during Citizen TV's JKLive showclaimed that she had been exploited by her ex-manager, Joe Mwangi.

During the show hosted by renowned journalist Jeff Koinange, Ms Waeni painfully narrated how her abilities had taken her around the world, performing for global leaders but was still condemned to a life of struggle, after the said manager failed to share proceeds from her shows.

"I have been performing all over the world Jeff. I know you know that. Right now, I live in Huruma because of Joe Mwangi. Jeff to be sincere with you, I've been performing all over like Rwanda, Germany, China and I haven't got a single penny. My mum is really suffering now as we talk. I know she's working right now, she sells sweets. I live in a single room in Huruma now Jeff," she spoke.

On learning of the allegations, Mwangi took to social media to respond to the allegations by Wendy, terming them as false.

Mwangi strongly denied ever traversing the world with the 14-year-old at any point in her gymnastics career.

"On the video, it has been said that I (Joe) has travelled all over the world with Wendy, the fact is I have never ever left this country in the company of Ms Waeni.

"Anybody with any proof that I have flown out at any given time with her, put it here," he challenged.

Mwangi also differed with Wendy's accusation of not paying her despite all the trips they made around the world, terming them as unrealistic.

"It is also alleged that for more than five years, Wendy has never received a penny, I mean, which parent in this world will allow his/her kid to be misused for not one month, not a year, but five years?" posed Mwangi.

The former manager asked interested parties to take note of a photo of Wendy, Ellyanne Githae, a nature enthusiast, Jeff and two other guests had taken, inferring that a party in the photo had coached Wendy to accuse him falsely.

"For now, someone kindly save this photo you will come to understand who the interested parties and scriptwriter is in the next few days," he urged.

Ms Waeni's revelation, that sparked anger from viewers who watched, also caught the attention of the Principal Prosecution Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), Duncan Ondimu.

Ondimu, who was watching the show, condemned Mwangi's act and urged Wendy's mum, a single mother, to file an official complaint.

"This is so criminal of Joe Mwangi. So sad what he has done to the little girl. He ought to pay heavily for what he has done," he commented.

"I hope she and her mum file an official police complaint. I'm sure the DCI would gladly investigate. He should be aware of Section 268, 313 of the Penal Code," Ondimu added.
