LSK Disowns Cliff Ombeta as a Licensed Lawyer

UPDATE: LSK president, Allen Gichuhi, has rubbished claims that Cliff Ombeta is not licensed to practice as a lawyer. He stated that lawyer Stephen Ongaro misguided the court.

The Law Society of Kenya, on Thursday, stated that criminal lawyer Cliff Ombeta is not licensed to practice law.

Speaking during Willie Kimani's murder case in court, LSK stated that it had withdrawn Ombeta's certificate, citing that he did not have enough points to practice law.

Through LSK's lawyer, Stephen Ongaro, he stated that Ombeta was not qualified to stand before the court.

Ombeta's lawyer Doreen Kali, however, defended him saying that he had a valid certificate.

She noted that Ombeta was still on the register as a licensed lawyer.

About two weeks ago, a high court judge ordered Ombeta to get another lawyer to represent the three accused persons in Willy Kimani's murder case.

This is after he failed to appear in court severally for the mention of the murder trial.

“I am in the house. I cannot reveal the illness I am suffering from but I will tell you that I was treated at Nairobi Hospital. They could not contain what I was suffering from, and thus, referred me to a consultant operating at Doctors Plaza,” he had previously told Kenyans.co.ke.

However, Ombeta, who has enjoyed success in various murder cases, refused to answer whether or not he had a doctor’s report.

“I am not a president or public official to reveal what I am suffering from. I am on painkillers and on other drugs. I am also on bed rest. When you are unwell and your grandmother or a witch doctor is treating you, that still means you are unwell. The two cannot give you a medical document," he maintained.
