Sonko Hits Headlines in India, Here's Why

Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, hit the headlines in India after being awarded an honorary Doctorate Degree in Dubai on August 7, 2019.

On Tuesday, Sonko shared a video, on his Facebook, of India-based ACV News which covered him being awarded the Doctor of Excellence Honoris Causa by the European Digital University.

An honorary degree is a recognized mark of professional excellence and ability, outstanding professional career, services to the humankind and international achievements.

"When I embarked on these community initiatives, I at no point imagined that one day my little efforts would attract global recognition.

"I'm therefore deeply challenged to do more, beyond my official duties as a governor and I take this responsibility to extend the challenge to you all, to serve your community beyond your individual capacity," expressed Sonko.

The governor has earned global acclaim for his charity as well as rehabilitation of criminals.

He is currently the ambassador for Good Deeds Day, an Israeli-based organisation.

In July 2019, Governor Sonko received an award and honorary membership from the International Police Association (IPA) for his role in fighting crime in Nairobi and reforming ex-gangsters.

While receiving the honours in Nairobi, the county head stated, "It is a great privilege for me to receive this honourary International Police Association membership.

"The world needs police to ensure law and order is maintained, otherwise people would return to the state of nature where everyone does what they want and it becomes a race for survival."
