Sossion's Team Locked Out of Uhuru's Event

The Kenya National Union of Teachers(KNUT) officials were, on Friday, locked out of the third national CBC conference at the KICC, where President Uhuru Kenyatta is in attendance.

Reports by Daily Nation reported that the officials were blocked out of the event for lack of accreditation.

"They were asked to get badges for the forum from the Ministry of Interior," a KNUT official stated.

The aim of the conference is to expand inclusion and reaching every learner through the education reforms.

2,000 delegates from across the country are expected at the conference, which is aimed to provide academicians, religious leaders and policy makers to discuss the quality of education in the country.

Previously, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha and Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary-general Wilson Sossion have had a tuff over the implementation of the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC).

KNUT had been opposed to the idea of a new curriculum, citing teacher unpreparedness and inadequate infrastructure.

On the other hand, the CS stated that the establishment of the task force was for purposes of enhancing access, relevance, transition, equity and quality for effective curriculum reforms.

“The CBC is one of the President’s legacy projects which the government is keen to ensure it succeeds,” stated Prof Magoha.

The conference is expected to address the confusion in the education sector.
