MP Who was John DeMathew's Video Vixen

On Sunday evening, Kenyans received the sad news of the death of one of the most revered musicians John De' Mathew who passed away in a road crash.

De' Mathew was famed for his lyrical prowess and his entertaining music videos, one which featured the current Murang'a Woman Representative, Sabina Chege.

Titled Njata Yakwa, Chege is seen dancing with the benga maestro and holding him as he sings, "You are my star. My happiness is only with you.”

Before becoming a politician, Chege is reported to have worked as an actress which explains why she was featured in the music video.

At around the time the video was released, rumours became ripe that the Woman Rep and the musician were an item although they never declared it publicly.

Since his passing, various leaders have come forward to offer their condolences to De' Mathew's family stating that the country as a whole had lost such a legend.

“Sincere condolences to the family,  friends and fans of musician John De' Mathew whom I met at our #EmbraceInMuranga meeting and also danced to some of his music in the past. A great loss for Murang'a and Kenya.

“Rest in peace. Sabina Chege be comforted all of you. God Bless,” posted Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda.

"My condolences to the family of recording artist John De'Mathew and to his fans at large. He may Rest in Peace," shared Nairobi Woman Representative, Esther Passaris.

"Deep condolences to the family, friends and fans of renowned musician John DeMathew. He used his talent to teach us life lessons and convey socio-economic and cultural messages, especially to the youth.

"De' Mathew mentored many aspiring musicians and campaigned for a platform to empower them. He was artistic, sociable and an eloquent performer. Rest In Peace," condoled DP William Ruto.

“As a nation, we were privileged to have had such a brilliant artiste who played a big role in promoting our African cultural heritage through his music. Indeed, we have lost an icon in the music industry," mourned President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The crash took place along the Thika Superhighway. Reports indicate that he was heading home after attending a fundraiser for fellow musician Peter Kagia’s ailing child.
