DCI Uncover Getaway Plan in Ksh72M ATM Heist

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Friday, September 6, bust the plan by the gang that stole ksh72 million from an ATM and a G4S truck.

The detectives attached to the Special Crimes Police Unit (SCPU) arrested three individuals and seized two cars that they claimed were used in the heist.

Police stated that one vehicle was seized at a garage in Kikuyu as it was being repainted.

Police detectives said the Toyota Voxy KCE 920E was being painted from white to black in a bid to beat the justice system.

Another vehicle a Toyota Noah KCH 834U was also impounded as the sleuths continued with the investigations.

Earlier in the same day, six guards from the G4S company were arraigned in court in connection to the heist.

This came after police officers recovered trails of evidence that were left behind by suspects in the infamous heist.

Police report that they recovered broken cash boxes, 13 bags used to cart away money from the Standard Chartered ATM and a G4S van at the Thogoto Forest in Kikuyu.

The suspects, who masqueraded as police officers on the morning of Thursday, September 5, made off with 13 bags of the money estimated at Ksh72 million.
