Ex-Jubilee Boss Joins Raila to Block Ruto From Presidency

Former Jubilee party Vice-chairperson David Murathe on Saturday, September 7, made scathing remarks against the Deputy President William Ruto.

Murathe spoke during KTN's presenter Tony Gachoka's birthday, where opposition leader Raila Odinga was the chief guest.

Reports by The Standard indicated that Murathe expressed strong support for Raila Odinga as the man needed beat Ruto in the 2022 presidential contest.

“If there is somebody who can stop that guy (Ruto) from becoming President, it is the former Prime Minister. There is nobody else, our main aim is to make sure that person (Ruto) does not become President because if he does we are all finished," declared Murathe.

This, according to Murathe was because other candidates interested in the seat had no political muscle to take on the deputy president.

While Odinga has not publicly declared whether or not he will run for the presidency in the 2022 general elections, politicians around him have been clear that he is the party's presumptive candidate.

Siaya County Senator James Orengo and Murathe have in the past hinted that Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta have been working on a political formation that could see Raila take on Ruto in the upcoming general election.

Murathe who is also a known critique of the DP further took a swipe at Ruto and his allies for criticising the President's Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

"I hear some people are opposing the BBI. How do you oppose something that you don't know? Let them wait for the report," argued Murathe.

The former Jubilee vice-chairman resigned from the party early in the year in what was seen, in some quarters, as a bid to stop to block Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
