Raila Holds Crucial Meeting After Kibra Nominations

Orange Democratic Movement leader, Raila Odinga, convened a meeting with aspirants who participated in the party's nominations in Kibra, before he presented the certificate to the winner, Imran Okoth.

The African Union envoy, who was in Ethiopia when the nominations took place, met the aspirants at Orange House in Nairobi on Tuesday, September 10.

"Raila Odinga is currently meeting all the aspirants who took part in the Saturday nomination exercise ahead of the presentation of the certificate to the party candidate in the Kibra by-election," ODM wrote on Facebook.

After the meeting, Raila spoke, thwarting rumours that the party was divided after Imran Okoth won the nominations.

"We have had a meeting with all aspirants and they have pledged to gang up behind our flag bearer Imran Okoth," Raila revealed.

However, ODM's nomination was allegedly marred with a few controversies.

The party's Director of Communications, Philip Etale, on Monday, August 9, sought to set the record straight over allegations that he had received a Ksh2 million bribe from Imran, in exchange for the party's ticket.

Taking to his social media, Etale stated that he had not engaged in any underhanded schemes with Imran and dismissed an alleged WhatsApp communication on the same.

ODM made a special dispensation on Sunday, September 8, by allowing its offices to remain open to handle complaints and petitions against Imran's victory.

The brother to the late Kibra MP, Ken Okoth on Saturday, trounced nine other aspirants to become ODM's front runner in the upcoming Kibra mini poll.

He will now face among others, McDonald Mariga of Jubilee Party, former ODM strategist Eliud Owalo fielded by Musalia Mudavadi's ANC, Khamisi Butichi (Ford Kenya) and Ukweli Party's Editar Ochieng.
