Reason Citizen TV Presenter Rode on Musician's Back to Studio From Home

Music in Kenya has transformed over the years, flowing from one sound to another. From genge to kapuka to dancehall and club bangers.

However, the legendary Issah Mmari Wangui alias E-sir still rings a bell and the musician is always remembered and revered for being a pioneer in the music industry.

During a Citizen TV show dubbed Ten Over Ten in March 2018, hosted by the vibrant Willis Raburu, radio host queen and TV presenter Talia Oyando recalled how E-sir carried her on his back through the streets of Nairobi to record a song.

The late musician was set to record his famous song 'Hamunitishi' featuring Talia. However, he found her weak and ailing.

“It was the day for recording and I had Malaria. He came to the house and he informed me that we were going to the studio. I informed him that I was sick," the presenter recalled.

E-sir however persisted and convinced Talia to troll along to the studio, despite her illness.

"He argued and stated that if we didn’t record the song that day, it would never happen. We walked to my gate where my illness worsened and I could not walk anymore. We only had 10 shillings between us.

"He then carried me on his back and walked all the way to the studio and used the 10 shillings to buy me tonic water,” Talia recalled.

Talia further revealed that she lived in Nairobi West while the late E-Sir lived in South C at the time.

E-Sir died 16 years ago after being involved in an accident alongside endeared musician David Mathenge alias Nameless.
