State House Orders That Forced Ruto to Cancel US Trips

Details have emerged on how Deputy President was forced to cancel his foreign trips after receiving orders from State House.

Reports by the Daily Nation on Sunday, September 15, indicated that Ruto's trips to Canada and the United States for May and June were subject to a sudden cancellation over a clash in the schedules between the head of state and the deputy.

Ruto was expected to meet the Kenyan community in the region over a period of three weeks.

He would have visited 15 states culminating in a speech at the Open Governance Partnership Conference in Canada, scheduled for May 28 and 29.

The visit did not materialise as it coincided with President Uhuru Kenyatta's scheduled trip where he attended a global conference on women and girls in Vancouver.

Sources from State House stated that the trips would have been impractical as international diplomacy norms dictate that the president and the deputy can not be out of the country at the same time.

Ruto had earlier on in February been forced to cut short a trip he had made to the UK.

After delivering a speech at Chatham House titled “Challenges encountered while managing change in a diverse country," the DP was scheduled to make a public lecture at Warwick University.

However, State House informed him that President Kenyatta was to travel to Ethiopia the following day and had to postpone further engagements in Europe.

Ruto was accompanied by Soy MP Caleb Kositany who was quoted by the publication, "I recall it clearly because we were to travel by road, a distance that would have taken us three hours.

"The DP had to call the Africa students leadership, which was headed by a Kenyan where he had lunch with them that Friday and promised them another visit."
