Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Sunday, September 22, revealed that he had caught thieves red-handed.
Through his Twitter, the county head stated that he received a tip-off from a resident, whom he referred to as George M, that there were people stealing iron bars from a stadium under construction in his county.
"This morning, a great citizen, George M. called me and told me people were cutting and stealing iron bars from the ongoing works at the new Mavoko stadium in Athi River," he stated.
Mutua added that he immediately involved the county's security apparatus who busted in the act.
The men, eight in number, had a lorry where they ferried the iron bar after vandalising.
Those arrested were identified as Joshua Onyango, Ndiema Gartuso, Kelvin Otieno, Cheruiyot Kibet, Yamin Seleman, Joel Makau, Suresh Kirti and Kioti Kumar.
The arrests elicited reactions from a section of Kenyans online.
"It’s a huge problem sir and it’s preventing investors from investing billions in your county. Even a perimeter wall doesn’t help," one user, Njonjo Ndehi stated.
"Make sure they are locked for a long time," another opined.
