Conman Arrested After Impersonating MP Gifted Car by Uhuru

Police officers on Monday, September 23 arrested a conman who impersonated a member of parliament (MP).

The suspect, Zaberio Kinoti impersonated Kenya's youngest MP for Igembe South John Paul Mwirigi.

Reports by Daily Nation indicated that Kinoti who is currently being held by the police had opened a Facebook account posing as the youthful MP.

He is accused of soliciting money from residents under false promises of plum jobs and monetary rewards.

Mwirigi who spoke to journalists in Maua town, disclosed that he reported the matter to the police after he was overwhelmed by the high number of members of the public who sought to collect cheques allegedly promised by the conman.

The conman reportedly asked for Ksh4,000 from his unsuspecting followers promising cheques worth Ksh 150,000.

Job seekers, on the other hand, were asked to pay Ksh150,000 to secure employment.

The conman began using the MPs identity soon after he was gifted a car by President Uhuru Kenyatta, when he rode a bus upon election.

Kinoti used various aliases among them John Mwirigi Kamotho who also claimed to be a personal assistant to Meru Woman Rep Kawira Mwangaza.

The conman was arrested in an entertainment joint in Kinoro market, Imenti South after engaging detectives in a week-long cat and mouse chase.

He was found in possession of numerous SIM cards and identity cards which he is suspected to have been using to withdraw money sent by various victims.
