Kivutha Kibwana Abandons Security During New York Trip

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana abandoned his state-assigned security during his New York trip on Wednesday, September 26, a move that set tongues wagging.

In a photo that surfaced online of the celebrated governor, activist Boniface Mwangi revealed that Kibwana had travelled to the states without his assigned security team.

A representative from the county's communication department also confirmed the claim explaining that since assuming office, the county boss developed a penchant of not relying on security but travelling all on his own almost everywhere.

The governor, however, travelled with technical staff from the department of health and a chief officer. He attended two functions: one at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, an organisation that funds healthcare initiatives in Africa and the Kenya Diaspora Conference.

"There is the personal assistant, chief of staff, private secretary. It is a team actually. I think that is his way of doing things.

"Well, there is something that warrants their availability, fine but some do not make a lot of sense," explained the communications person.

He also explained that, just like every other governor, Kibwana is assigned a chase car with six armed security officers but he rarely commissions them to functions, especially when travelling abroad.

The move seems to have split Kenyans with others praising him and some castigating his choice to abandon the security terming it as mean.

"A clean person who has not conned or corrupted does not need a bodyguard," praised Hinga Rose.

"Kibwana is one the greatest leaders this country will ever have I envy the people of makueni," added Ben Talam.

"Did you ask him about reports he’s rewarding his own wife with contracts to bilk the County?" Benji Ndolo differed.
