Rutto Picks Fight With Mudavadi on Live TV

Former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto dismissed Amani National Congress leader, Musalia Mudavadi’s claims of being the official leader of the opposition.

In an interview on K24’s Punchline on Sunday, September 29, the Chama Cha Mashinani party leader argued that since Mudavadi was outside of Parliament, he had no basis to claim he was the main opposition leader.

“Raila Odinga is still the official opposition leader and the handshake did not change that,” he revealed.

He went on to restate the traditional route once prescribed for the defunct position of official leader of the opposition.

“Mudavadi is not in Parliament right now. He cannot control his troops from the outside,” Rutto reiterated.

“You cannot keep shouting at the bus from outside to be driven right, you need to be in the bus as the driver,” he added.

Rutto, who lost his gubernatorial seat to the late Joyce Laboso, also commented on his party’s role in the now almost defunct National Super Alliance (Nasa).

“Chama Cha Mashinani had a pact with Nasa to get into government, and when we didn’t we had to put a pause on that,” he assured.

Rutto confirmed that his party had worked with the alliance on an agenda to get into parliament as per the initial agreement.

He also affirmed that he was still involved politically in the current issues in the government adding that the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga was not meant to destroy deputy president William Ruto’s presidential ambition.

“The handshake was not meant to sabotage anyone but to foster peace,” he concluded.
