The County Public Accounts and Investments Committee (CPAIC), on Monday, September 30, called for the arrest of Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua.
This was after the governor failed to heed to their summons to present himself before the committee, to answer queries raised by Auditor-General Edward Ouko in the 2017/18 financial year.
According to K24, the senators have formally written to the Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, to have its orders of arrest implemented.
Gov Mutua had earlier written to CPAIC, claiming that the entire subject had been orchestrated by Machakos Senator, Boniface Kabaka, as a political weapon.
“Under the circumstances, it is not possible for the committee to have an objective sitting where issues will be adequately clarified," read an excerpt of his letter.
He further alleged that the senator had mobilised goons to heckle him as he appeared before the committee and paint him as corrupt.
“Mr Kabaka should not be allowed to use an innocent committee sitting to advance personal interests as this obviously amounts to blackmail, arm-twisting and abuse of office,” read a section of his letter.
However, the special sitting maintained that the governor was still answerable, for failing to appear as had been requested.
The special sitting was set to be held in the chambers of the Kitui County Assembly on September 18, 2019, but the governor gave the entire event a wide berth.
In his letter, governor Mutua had requested for the hearing to be held in Nairobi, preferably at a later date.
