KTN News correspondent on Sunday, September 29 hit International media after he bagged a prestigious award.
Reports by BBC disclosed that the investigative journalist, Solomon Serwanjja, a Ugandan based in Kampala, won the Komla Dumor Award sponsored by the London-based station.
Serwanja who reports for Uganda's NBS TV is the second Ugandan to win the award in its five years history after a former KTN presenter, Nancy Kacungira.
His win also comes shortly after Citizen TV's Waihiga Mwaura who won the same award in 2018.
The scribe was honoured with the award after a breathtaking documentary titled ‘stealing from the sick’, which unmasked drug theft in Uganda.
Serwanjja is reported to have awed the judges with his eloquence as well as passion for telling African stories.
His commitment and bravery in uncovering what is in the public interest also impressed the judges.
Serwanjja is set to spend three months at the BBC in London and travel back to the continent to report on a story there.
In 2018, Waihiga also won the panel's admiration with his story-telling ability and on-screen presence.
The judges noted that his passion for giving Africans a voice and his investigative journalism set him ahead of other entrants.
The award was created in honour of Komla Dumor, a presenter for BBC World News, who died suddenly aged 41 in 2014.
According to Jamie Angus, the director of BBC World Service Group, the award was creat "to recognise and empower some of Africa's leading talent in journalism, in honour of Komla, is really important to us.
"Komla's reporting made a huge impact with audiences all over the world, and we're excited to have Solomon at the BBC, to harness Komla's commitment to telling African stories."
