Police Rough Up K24 Journalist on Live TV [VIDEO]

A K24 Journalist found himself on the wrong side of the law after a police officer confronted him while he was covering the ongoing recovery efforts of the victims of the Likoni ferry tragedy.

In a video posted by the Daily Nation on Tuesday, October 1, the K24 reporter identified as Wilfred Kai, was seen tussling with the police officer in an attempt stop him from grabbing his camera.

The senior police officer had gone to the spot where the reporter was standing while streaming his coverage live and asked him to move to a 'safer' spot.

The journalist asked the police officer to allow him to complete the coverage as he was streaming it live to the studio.

The police officer, in apparent anger, attempted to grab the camera from the reporter in an effort to get him to move.

Other journalists who were on the sidelines stepped in to plead with the police officers to stop harassing the journalist but the officers stood their ground, insisting that they wanted everyone to leave the scene.

The ensuing scuffle prompted members of the public to step in and condemn the officer for his crude action, an act that made them back down and let go of the journalist, but with strict warnings that they were all to stay away from the spot.

"We have been at this same spot since six in the morning. I do not know what has prompted the officers to come in just now and push us away," a journalist was heard complaining.

The police officers, in their defence, lamented that they would be the ones to blame if any of the journalists lost their lives at the scene.
