DP Ruto Leads Praise & Worship in Church [VIDEO]

Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday, October 6 led the church service in praise and worship at the Great Gospel Visioners Church, Meru County, where he has been on tour since Friday.

In the video posted by Dennis Itumbi on his Twitter page, DP Ruto who seemed uneasy, was seen shyly clapping and raising his hands in an attempt to keep up with the animated chorus leader.

He was capping the last day of his highly disappointing political and developmental tour in Meru, where his events were given a wide berth by senior leaders from the county.

The DP was reported by the Daily Nation on Sunday, October 6, to be banking on religion as being the key to his State House ambition in a country deeply polarised along tribal lines.

The paper claimed that he was investing in an elaborate network that has led him to strike a rapport with at least a religious leader in each of the country’s 1,450 wards, dedicating a day every week to personally connect with them.

The truth of the statement can be seen in the way he caps every political outing with a church visit, which then culminates into a fundraising exercise.

On Friday, October 4, Ruto held two functions in Meru Town and Governor Kiraitu Murungi and his deputy Titus Ntuchiu's absence became the talk of the town.

The governor, however, sent a Ksh100,000 donation to a Harambee that DP Ruto had attended.

DP Ruto, unfazed by the conspicuous absence, carried on with the tour with the usual promises of development and a speech with political undertones.

"I have come to Meru several times and I will keep coming until I streamline the issues affecting this country. As Jubilee leaders, we were elected on the promise of delivering development and all of us must do that. The rest have nothing much but to make noise," Ruto told the crowd.

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and Rahim Dawood (North Imenti MP) however attended the Harambee.
