Kenya Prisons Urgent Notice to 2019 Recruits

Kenya Prisons Services and Ministry of Interior announced new reporting dates for the constables that were successfully recruited

The communication was made through official social media accounts on October 12, 2019. 

The shortlisted applicants were asked to report to Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

The new reporting dates differ by region. Recruits from Rift Valley and Eastern were instructed to report on October 28.

Successful candidates from North Eastern and Coast regions were asked to report October 29. Those from Nyanza and Western regions were directed to present themselves on October 30.

Central, Nairobi, National Youth Service sportsmen and women candidates were told to report on October 31, 2019.

According to Kenya Prison Service's website, the initial recruitment happened on Wednesday, October 9 with the institution conducting a countrywide search for potential candidates. 

All 47 counties were involved with prison's department officers registering citizens who met the qualifications that were required.

A candidate was required to first be a Kenyan citizen to be considered. They also needed to have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of D+ and above.

Men of 5 feet and 4 inches and women of 5 feet and 2 inches were also selected for the recruitment. All of them were required to be between the ages of 18 to 28.

Medical records were important as only fit recruits were given a priority. Good vision and hearing ability were also determining factors.

Female candidates who were pregnant at the time of recruitment were rejected. 

Successful recruits will receive paramilitary training which lasts for not less than nine months.

Prospective candidates were asked to carry their original identification cards, birth certificates, KRA PIN certificates, academic certificates and other testimonials on the reporting day.
