Police Officer in Ksh6M Lodging Heist Exposed in Another Highway Robbery

Simon Mwaniki Festus - the police officer arrested in connection with the Ksh6 million heist in Nairobi's Eastleigh area, allegedly also stole Ksh2.7 Million from a Chinese national.

The 34-year-old officer attached to the Kayole Police Station was positively identified as one of the four officers who robbed a Chinese casino operator - Wunei Dun, along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on July 23, 2019.

Mwaniki together with three other officers including Eunice Wanjiku Mburu (the daughter to a senior Nairobi police boss) was found in possession of the stolen cash.

They were arraigned at the Limuru Law Courts, where they went to confess to having been in cahoots with Janet Cheptoo and Ezra Kipng’eno (Mr Din's employees).

A report by the Daily Nation stated that Mwaniki was hurriedly cleared and posted to Kayole.

A further dig into his social media activity portrayed the suspect was accustomed to a flashy lifestyle

An unnamed officer at vigilance claimed that Mwaniki's redeployment to work despite being fingered in an armed robbery investigation.

“We shall find out the truth and know how he was sent to Kayole Police Station,” the officer divulged.

Mwaniki has been named alongside Corporal Wilson Cheruiyot, Constable Daniel Kipkorir, Constable Alex Kandie, Mr Esome Baptist and Petronila Njeri Ngaara, whom police say is an accomplice and runs the Kayole police canteen.

During his arrest, officers found fake currencies, fake driving licences and police documents at his apartment.
