Mariga Issues Strong Message After Getting Caught Up in Kibra Chaos

Jubilee Party candidate for the Kibra by-election, McDonald Mariga, has finally spoken out after his convoy was pelted with stones while they were heading to a rally.

Taking to his Facebook page, the former professional footballer thanked his supporters for turning up in large numbers.

"Thank you Kibra. I want also to thank the huge crowd that filled the Bukhungu Grounds, Makina Ward who came to listen to me and welcome Jubilee to Kibra," the post reads in part.

Further, Mariga warned his competitors to refrain from violence, adding that each candidate has a right to campaign in the constituency.

"I'm thrilled as the rally was successful even though violence emerged against our supporters by criminals from another party that claims that Kibra is their bedroom," he added.

On Saturday, October 12, The Standard reported that Mariga's campaign convoy was pelted with stones.

The rowdy youth who attacked the vehicle went on to set its tyres ablaze in an adjacent road, beside a billboard with Mariga's face.

The vehicle, branded with Mariga's portrait and Jubilee's trademark colours (yellow and red), had its windows smashed and its boot destroyed.

Photos of the vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, showed it was parked at a police station after the incident.

Reports alleged that chaos erupted after locals caught one of Ruto's men with Ksh10 million which was being used to buy IDs from targeted communities.
