Former Police IG Declares War on Murkomen

Former Police Inspector General (IG) David Kimaiyo launched an onslaught aimed at Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.

The Daily Nation reported on Tuesday, October 22, that Kimaiyo was not pleased with how Murkomen was using his power as a representative of Elgeyo Marakwet residents.

"During his first term, he focused on issues affecting residents but he has deviated from the role people of Elgeyo Marakwet gave him," Kimaiyo stated.

The former police boss also claimed that Murkomen was engaging in sideshows and should instead serve the people who elected him to the position.

"When you get such a privilege to serve the people, you should leave petty politics to other people. Your county must be the priority, other things should come after that," he reiterated.

The former police boss claimed that he would have made a better senator but lost unfairly to Murkomen in the August 8, 2017 elections. Kimaiyo lost by 22,000 votes to Murkomen who garnered 117,000 votes.

"God-willing I will vie again for the Senate seat in 2022. I am still ready to serve my people. I know there are challenges and will be more than ready to provide the solutions. This time I will take it, just know that," Kimaiyo expressed optimism.

Kimaiyo also rubbished rumours that he would be vying for the governor's seat, even though the incumbent Governor Alex Tolgos was in his final term.

"I do not want to be confined within the county. A national figure like me ought not to be operating within the county. As a senator, I will do much more than as a governor. When you are operating at the national level, you can easily influence the distribution of more resources to the county. I want to be in the senate," he affirmed.

Senator Murkomen, however, responded to Kimaiyo's remarks with a simple "Plezident Kingston" tweet.

Kimaiyo served as the police IG until he resigned in 2014, after a series of Al Shabaab attacks in the country.

He was later replaced by Joseph Boinnet who also gave way to current IG Hillary Mutyambai.
