Inside New Ksh8 Billion Chinese-built Hospital That Will Combat Cancer [PHOTOS]

A hospital built by Chinese that will change Kenya's healthcare on Monday, October 28 officially opened its doors to the public.

The Kenyatta University Hospital that cost a whopping Ksh8 billion was finally opened after Health CS Sicily Kariuki inspected the facility accompanied by the university's Former Vice-Chancellor Professor Olive Mugenda.

The teaching, referral and research facility has a 650-bed capacity and is expected to admit its first patients this week, however, only 150 beds will be operating in the initial stage, Citizen Digital reports.

The fancy hospital will also specialize in cancer treatment and renal healthcare.

The CS disclosed that the blue and green themed hospital will be 100 per cent referral with 40 doctors and more than 100 other medical staff on call.

“We are sensitizing the surrounding community that this will not be a walk-in and walk out facility,” she stated.

“I have assessed the hospital equipment and HR capacity and can now confirm that it’s ready to offer the following services to the public: 100 per cent accident and emergency services, oncology 50 per cent, renal per cent and trauma above 50 per cent among others,” Sicily affirmed.

Members of the public will also benefit from the hospital's emergency, cardiology, laboratory, gynecology services, and oncology, pediatric, surgical and funeral home services.

The opening of the hospital came after a 2-year tussle on who between the university and the government should manage the hospital, The Standard reported.

The health CS, however, clarified that the facility was established under the Ministry of Health through a gazette notice, despite it being hosted by Kenyatta University.
