Waititu's Minister Loses Job After Fighting His Deputy

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu's close ally who served as a minister in Kiambu lost his job on Wednesday, October 30, after fighting with the acting county boss James Nyoro.

A report by The Standard, on Thursday, October 31, revealed that 53 of the county's 55 MCAs passed the motion to impeach Youth and Sports Executive Karungo Thangw’a on grounds that he undermined Nyoro.

Nominated MCA Njeri Bakari, in her motion, argued that Thang'wa had undermined the acting county boss by not attending cabinet meetings, hence leading to his department not receiving any allocation.

“Since the launch of Jijenge Fund, no one has ever been given money despite loan forms being distributed across the county. Two years down the line, the money was returned back to Treasury,” stated Bakari.

The lawmakers further accused the CEC of abuse of office citing one instance where a football tournament he had allegedly planned was given an unrealistic budget.

Thang'wa's woes began early, in July 2019, after a special committee was set up to investigate his office.

The committee found that the youth division splashed Ksh1.9 million on the tournament that took place on April 1, 2019.

“The executive launched a driving school programme two years ago where 1,200 youths were trained but have never been awarded driving licences despite the driving school being paid,” argued Kinoo MCA Kimani Wanjiku.

Bakari had also accused the CEC of engaging in politics despite holding an executive position.
