6 Killed as City Tycoon's Funeral Turns Chaotic

Six people were on Friday, November 17, killed by an irate mob during the funeral of prominent Kisumu businessman, Johanes Okoth.

According to reports by the Daily Nation, the 6 were descended upon by angry mourners brandishing crude weapons, clobbering them to death.

The funeral which took place in Masebula, Busia county reportedly turned ugly when 10 men dressed in black allegedly refused to introduce themselves.

“Ten people dressed in black suits were in the funeral procession from Sega Mission Hospital mortuary. When we asked them to introduce themselves they declined,” the sister to the slain businessman Ms Roselyne Aduol narrated.

The mourners turned on them and accused them of being responsible for Okoth's untimely death.

Busia County Commander Jacob Narengo, told the Nation that the locals had allegedly spotted one of the heavily built men stashing a black bag and some weapons in the hearse.

“Locals said that one of the men was spotted putting a black bag, which had a whip and three knives in the hearse. The mourners suspected that they could have been involved in the murder of the businessman," the county commander disclosed.

However, the latest reports indicated that the men were actually part of a security detail 'bouncers' hired by a close relative of the slain businessman.

Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o, has since weighed in on the shocking incident, going on to urge the police to hasten their investigations so as to ensure that justice was served.

"Deeply concerned on the gruesome murder of six young men from Kisumu County by a mob in Masebula village, Busia County at the funeral,

"I call upon the police to conduct speedy investigations to bring to light what circumstances occasioned this heinous act and bring the perpetrators to book," the governor stated.

The six bodies were moved to Busia County Hospital mortuary.
