How Trainee Pilot Evaded Death After Plane Lost Wheel Mid-Air

A pilot faced death after his plane lost a wheel in mid-air at Malindi Airport, during a training session on Monday, November 18, 2019.  

Daily Nation informed that the trainee pilot, identified as Emmanuel Omondi was guided on how to conduct safe crash landing.

A report from Malindi Police Station indicated that the student was advised to keep the aircraft airborne for over one hour to exhaust fuel.  

He flew the Cessna 152 aircraft belonging to Kenya Flying School from 1 pm to 2:20 pm to avoid an explosion while crash landing.

Malindi Airport Manager Mohammed Karama confirmed the incident, stating that the plane and runway were damaged.

"The cause of the accident will be established by aviation investigators,” Karama informed Daily Nation.

Omondi was rushed to Tawfique Hospital to undergo psychological counselling due to trauma. 

On Tuesday, November 11, a cargo plane was forced to conduct an emergency land after its engine stalled mid-air. The Jetways Airline plane was reportedly headed to Mogadishu, Somalia from Nairobi prior to the engine failure.

Back on October 11, a Lamu-bound Silverstone plane crash-landed at Nairobi National Park shortly after taking off from 1Wilson Airport.
