A fake version of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report hit social media waves after the document was presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House on Tuesday, November 26.
This was established after a spot check on the shared 'report' revealed glaring errors that are inconsistent with a document of that nature.
The timing of the release was in question, especially after President Uhuru Kenyatta specifically stated that the report would be presented to Kenyans at the Bomas of Kenya on November 27.
Interestingly, the falsified report apparently maintained a quote from the failed Punguza Mizigo Bill that was sponsored by Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot.
The inclusion of excerpts of the Punguza Mizigo Bill pours water on the authenticity of the report.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Thirdway Alliance Party Secretary-General, Frederick Okango, stated that Punguza Mizigo had set the precedent for any other proposal that the country would ever face.
"This shows how Punguza Mizigo Bill set the benchmark for any Constitutional Amendment proposal that will come," Okango stated.
The BBI task force has since warned Kenyans to beware of the fake report going round.
"We hope that Kenyans will be patient as we load the real BBI report for release. Please doubt the flood of fake reports circulating. We understand the demand to see it and look forward to the national conversation it will spark. Beware fakes!" A statement by the task force read.
Based on the review and revelations of the numerous mistakes and errors in the report, a conclusion can be drawn.
Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale also took to social media to term the report as fake.
Kenyans are hereby warned to look out for the fake report as well as others that may crop up.
