Teacher Tabichi Lands Ambassadorial Job

Peter Mokaya Tabichi, the world's best teacher in 2019, is a man whose star just keeps on shining.

On Monday, December 2, news broke that the recipient of the Ksh100 million Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2019 had landed an ambassadorial role.

According to a report by the People Daily, Tabichi was appointed as the Dettol Soaperhero Brand Ambassador for 2020.

Reckitt Benckiser, through its popular Dettol brand, kick-started a student-led school hygiene initiative with an aim of reducing hygiene-related ailments among young pupils across the country.

Global Teacher award winner Peter Tabichi meets with US President Donald Trump.

“Dettol has over the years focused its interventions on school hygiene programs, targeting children in both urban and rural areas. Today, we are honoured to partner with ‘the world’s best teacher’ in the fight against hygiene-based diseases in our schools,” Reckitt Benckiser Africa health expansion director Dele Adeyole stated while addressing the media.

The Kenyan science teacher and Franciscan friar at the Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School in Pwani Village, Nakuru, will spearhead a campaign that has so far enlisted over 2 million primary school children countrywide.

Tabichi expressed his gratitude after he accepted what he termed as a huge responsibility.

"It will be my great honour to work with various partners to ensure that we are reducing sanitation-related ailments among school-going children across the country,” he remarked.

Tabichi grabbed the global headlines after he trumped thousands of other teachers to bag the highest honour that can be bestowed in his profession.

Besides inspiring his students to succeed with very few resources and equipment, the Catholic Franciscan Brother was recognised for giving away 80% of his monthly income to help the poor.
