British Billionaire's Posh Kenyan Hotel Scoops International Award

British Billionaire, Richard Branson's Kenyan hotel, Mahali Mzuri, scooped the top award at the 26th annual World Travel Awards on Saturday, November 28.

Mahali Mzuri, a 12-tented luxury safari camp situated in the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy in the wider Maasai Mara ecosystem, was declared the world's leading Safari Lodge in 2019.

The colourful gala which was held at the Royal Opera House Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman was star-studded as a number of hotels from across the world were recognised.

It was also nominated for Africa's and Kenya's leading Tented Safari Camp in 2019.

The scenic camp offers tourists an opportunity to view wildlife in Kenya, especially the world-famous Maasai Mara ecosystem which entails the annual great wildebeest migration.

Branson is an entrepreneur and founder of Virgin Group, which controls more than 400 companies including Mahali Mzuri.

During the gala, Kenya bagged 12 top trophies after triumphing over other African nations.

In her congratulatory message, Kenya's Ambassador to France, Portugal, Serbia and Holy See, Judi Wakhungu, lauded the efforts by the country in placing itself as the world's best destination.

“We continue to be the destination of choice as Kenya wins in several categories at the 2019 World Travel Awards,” she stated.
