2 Chiefs Murdered in Cold Blood

A chief and his assistant were found dead in Lamu County on Wednesday, December 11, 2019.

Reports first published by Daily Nation revealed that their mutilated bodies were discovered inside their offices in Mbwajumali Village, Lamu East Constituency.

Initial reports claim that the two were hacked to death by a gang linked to illicit drug trafficking, barely two months after a police officer died in a similar circumstance.

The unknown assailants allegedly stormed the government offices and killed the two officials, leaving local residents in a state of shock.

This comes barely a month since the severely mutilated body of  Police Constable Hesbon Okemwa Anunda, was found in a mangrove forest in Kizingitini, Lamu County, on October 5.

His corpse was discovered three days after he was reported missing from his duty post at Tchundwa in Lamu East Constituency, with his government-issued firearm yet to be recovered.

Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata, confirmed the existence of a drug cartel in the area where the body was found, going on to announce that police had launched a county-wide manhunt.

“We’re aware that those who murdered the officer are drug barons who lured him by lying that there was a drug dealer they wanted him to arrest. It turns out it was a trap and a plan to actually kill the officer," Elungata stated.

Tensions are understandably high in the area following the gruesome double murders.
